what am i drinking?

Monday, August 27, 2012

A Monday morning brain teaser, just for fun. Here is a tasting note, unadulterated, from the label on the bottle in front of me.

“Aroma is characterized by a definite green fruity hint, vegetal notes of country grass, thistle and leaf. Bitterness and pungency are well-balanced and very intense, which confirms the olfactory green fruity hint. It finishes with a pleasant flavor of green almond."

Post up a guess and I’ll post up the correct answer on Tuesday.

Cheers,

PaulG

Hmmmmm...sounds like Sauvignon Blanc, particularly from "pungency" and "country grass". The green almond is throwing me off. I'll stick with a young (2010 or 2011) Sauvignon, even though it does not seem to be a common varietal in the PNW. Could I be more wrong?

2010 Columbia Gorge Cabernet Sauvignon?

I kid, I kid. I kid because I love.

OK, one of you is right!

And the winner is... None! The quote comes directly and unaltered off the label of a bottle of Colli Etruschi Classic olive oil. There is even a mini-aroma wheel icon with descriptors such as "harmony, fluidity, bitterness, pungency, walnut husk, leaf, and artichoke." Thanks to all who ventured a guess. We'll do this again sometime down the road. Tomorrow, back to our regularly scheduled ranting...

The real question is: Why are you drinking olive oil?

Jim - because I'm half Sicilian! And it's good for you.
